After the worst con hangover I’ve ever had has passed I can finally focus on updating about Popcult Helsinki 2015.

I finished my Sauron (Silmarillion) cosplay in time from recycled materials and I eaven had the courage to attend the Design contest (I was feeling quite anxious about it the day before…). Meg encouraged me to go through with it and I doubt I would’ve done it without her support. And I’m glad I did it as it was so much fun eaventough I was nervous the whole time. Of course it is slightly disappointing not to rank at all but for a shy person like me entering the stage was a victory in itself. After the contest people came to me like: ‘Hey weren’t you on that contest just now? Your outfit is amazing!’ and otherwise during the whole convention- -  I can’t eaven begin to comprehend how much compliments I got from my cosplay! I was (still am) overwhelmed of all the positive feedback. Thank you! Thank you so much!

Nyt kun elämäni pahin coni krapula on vihdoin ohitse voin keskittyä päivittämään Popcult Helsinki 2015 tapahtumasta.

 Sain kun sainkin Sauron (Silmarillion) cosplay asuni valmiiksi kierrätysmateriaaleista ja osallistuin design kisaan (olin lievästi hermostunut edeltävänä päivänä…). Meg rohkaisi minua menemään ja en usko että olisin osallistunut kisaan ilman hänen tukeaan. Ja onneksi menin sillä se oli todella kivaa vaikka olinkin hermona koko kisan ajan. Tietysti se hieman harmittaa etten sijoittunut kisassa mutta tällaiselle ujolle henkilölle pelkästään lavalle meno on voitto itsessään. Kisan jälkeen ihmiset tulivat juttelemaan minulle: ’Hei olitko sä äsken lavalla? Sun puku on upee!’ ja muutenkin koko tapahtuman ajan- - En edes pysty käsittämään kuinka paljon kehuja sain asustani! Olin (ja olen vieläkin) hämilläni kaikesta positiivisesta palautteesta. Kiitos! Kiitos todella paljon!

The location of the event was... well- - slightly difficult as the shops and ATM’s weren’t that close by but it was nice to have the garden and the amusement park Linnanmäki so close by and the fact that the con was in metropolitan area was a plus. Kulttuuritalo in itself was slightly more cramped than I expected and a bit labyrinthine especially since I couldn’t see further than my hand without my eyeglasses so yeah. There was this really nice person helping me through the cosplay contest. She walked me over to the dressing room, to the judges and to the stage. I wish I’d caught her name but anyhow, if you happen to read this then thank you again! You were such a huge help and made me less nervous in my first (but not last?) cosplay contest.

 Tapahtumapaikan sijainti oli… Noh- - hieman haastava sillä kaupat ja ottomaatit olivat hieman kauempana mutta oli kiva kun puutarha ja Linnanmäki olivat lähellä ja se että tapahtuma oli pääkaupunkiseudulla oli plussaa. Kulttuuritalo itsessään oli hieman ahtaampi kuin olin kuvitellut ja sokkeloisempi varsinkaan kun en nähnyt kättä pidemmälle ilman silmälasejani, että niin. Tapahtumassa oli myös erittäin kiltti henkilö avustamassa minua cosplay kisoissa. Hän auttoi minut pukuhuoneisiin, tuomariston eteen sekä lavalle. Harmittaa kun en tiedä hänen nimeään mutta jos luet tätä niin kiitos jälleen! Olit suuri apu ja autoit minua olemaan stressaamatta liikaa ensimmäisessä (mutta ei viimeisessä?) cosplay kisassa.

The only big downside of the whole event that has stayed with me was the artist alley arranging. A week before the convention we get the payment and table info witch seemed like it was written in a hurry as was the artist alley seller information on their net site. It left a really bad taste in my mouth as there wasn’t eaven a table map on their site and the table was quite expensive. The advertising is usually part of the table price and if the advertising isn’t what it should be the table should then be cheaper to match it. Or then that’s just me who thinks that way…

 Ainoa iso varjopuoli tapahtumassa joka jäi painuvasti mieleeni oli taidekuja järjestelyt. Viikkoa ennen tapahtumaa saimme infoviestin ja maksutiedot jotka vaikuttivat siltä kuin ne olisivat kirjoitettu kovassa kiireessä samoin kuin kujalaisten esittelyt Popcultin nettisivuilla. Se jätti todella pahan maun suuhun varsinkin kun sivulla ei ollut edes kujakarttaa ja pöytä oli aika hintava. Mainostus kuuluu yleensä pöydän hintaan ja jos se ei ole mitä sen kuuluisi olla niin pöydänkin pitäisi olla hieman halvempi. Tai sitten se olen vain minä joka ajattelee niin…

 

I really hope that there’ll be more of cosplay design contests. I love the idea and there aren’t any cosplay competitions like that. It was wonderful to see the attendees execution of their characters. Simply outstanding. Maybe next time the convention could take it eaven further and show the picture of the design to the audience? Also: a big plus on the fleamarket! The fleamarket employees were awesome as usual. They worked fast and had a positive attitude every time I was there so I really hope they’ll be in other conventions aswell.

 Toivon että cosplay design kisoja tullaan vielä järjestämään. Idea on mielestäni todella hyvä sillä sellaisia kisoja ei vielä ole ollut. Oli hienoa nähdä osallistujien luomukset jotka olivat aivan upeita. Ehkä ensikerralla tapahtuma voisi viedä kisan astetta pidemmälle ja näyttää yleisölle kuvan asun suunnitelmasta? Ja vielä: Iso plussa kirpputorista! Kirpputorin työntekijät olivat jälleen loistavia. He työskentelivät nopeasti ja heillä oli positiivinen asenne joka kerta kun siellä olin joten toivon että he ovat muissakin con tapahtumissa.

 

Maybe I'll wear this cosplay again sometime...?/ Ehkä käytän tätä cosplayta vielä joskus uudestaan...?
