Frostbite 2015 ramble

DesuconFrostbite 2015 is already long gone but I haven’t had the chance to update my thoughts on it since I just moved to another apartment. Anyway!

Desucon Frostbite 2015 on jo ollut ja mennyt mutta en vain ole kerennyt päivittää siitä sillä muutin juuri uuteen asuntoon. Kuitenkin!

Let’s just make a simple pros and cons list:

 Tehdäänpä helppo ruusut ja risut listaus:

PROS:

+Pillow fight- A great way to relieve stress after struggling with the make of your cosplay. It was so much fun! …Although a few people hurt themselves quite badly.

+ Fleamarket- My preciousss...

+ Valentines theme- It was nice that they had put more effort on the Valentine’s Day stuff. I always feel like it just drifts by because I’m in a convention.

+ K-18 programs- There were more adult themed programs which was good. If you have an event that’s K-18 better make the most of it!

+ Artists Alley- Filled with people on both times from opening to the closing. Everyone was so nice, both sellers and customers and I eaven got to watch a seller make a watercolor painting. Cool~

+ Lastu dinner- Simply because it’s a bliss to have REAL food in a convention.

Ruusut:

+Tyynysota- Loistava tapa purkaa cosplayn tekemisestä tullut stressi. Se oli niin hauskaa! …vaikka muutama ihminen satuttikin itsensä aika pahasti.

+Kirpputori- Aaarteeni... 

+Ystävänpäivä teema- Oli kiva että ystävänpäivään oli panostettu tällä kertaa enemmän. Tuntuu että se aina jotenkin vilahtaa ohi kun on conissa.

+K- 18 ohjelma- Sitäkin löytyi tällä kertaa enemmän. Jos tapahtuma on K-18 luokiteltu niin siitä kannattaa ottaa kaikki ilo irti!

+Taidekuja- Täynnä ihmisiä molempina päivinä aukeamisesta sulkeutumiseen. Kaikki olivat todella mukavia, niin myyjät kuin kävijätkin ja pääsin jopa katsomaan kuin eräs myyjistä teki vesivärimaalausta. Siistiä~

+Lastun päivällinen- Koska on taivaallista saada oikeaa ruokaa conissa.

 CONS:

- Alcohol/ the evening party- There’s already so much alcohol related activities in Finland so why do we have to have it in the convention area? It was better when the evening party was alcohol free and the one who wanted to have something a bit stronger went to a local club reserved for the con people. That worked so much better… It was really unnerving to watch the drunken people in a place that’s supposed to be safe and it feels like when it comes to liqueur, Finnish just don’t know how to drink with moderation. I knew there was going to be some mildly intoxicated people like there was last year, but it surprised me how many had gone overboard with it. (Also the entrance arrangement didn’t really work…)

- Night program- …There wasn’t ANY. Why? Usually there’s atleast some drawing workshop going on.

 -  The line to Café Ichigo- I still haven’t gotten in the Café since there is always a line, but it’s something that can’t be helped unless they get a bigger space and more staff.

Risut:

- Alkoholi/ iltabileet- Suomessa on jo paljon alkoholiin liittyvää tekemistä joten miksi se pitää tuoda myös con alueelle? Mielestäni oli parempi että iltabileet olivat alkoholittomat ja he jotka halusit vähän vahvempaa siirtyivät paikalliselle clubille joka oli varattu conittajien käyttöön. Se toimi niin paljon paremmin… Oli todella ahdistavaa katsella humalaisia paikassa jonka pitäisi olla turvallinen kävijöilleen ja jotenkin tuntuu siltä ettei suomessa osata juoda kohtuudella. Tiesin että siellä olisi viimevuoden tapaan muutamia hieman humaltuneempia ihmisiä, mutta yllätyin siitä kuinka moni oli vienyt homman liian pitkälle. (Bileiden sisäänkäyntijärjestelyt eivät myöskään oikein toimineet…)

- Yöohjelma- Sitä ei ollut OLLENKAAN. Miksi? Yleensä tarjoilla on edes jokin piirustus paja.

 - Café Ichigon jono- En ole vieläkään päässyt kertaakaan kahvilan asiakkaaksi sillä sinne on aina jonoa, mutta sille ei voi oikein mitään ellei sille saada isompia tiloja sekä enemmän henkilökuntaa.

Desucon 2014 aftermath

Desucon 2014 is now behind and it’s time to review the weekend.

I cosplayed Thranduil- the elven king from the movie Hobbit- Desolation of Smaug and I cannot thank enough the people who came to take my photo or talk to me about my cosplay. I had almost decided to not to wear the outfit that day as I was quite tired and out of it. All the positive feedback really cheered me up and I eaven wore the outfit on Sunday aswell. Thank You!

Not forever alone~

I spent most of the Saturday behind my Artist Alley table. I usually share my table with Meg ( in forever alone cosplay on saturday), but this time we decided to get our own tables

 since we both had so much stuff to sell.

I noticed that Desucon hadn’t really informed that the alley would open at 11:00 and not at 10:00 as it usually had, so it was quite a hassle organizing the table while people poured in... Oh well. I managed and the rest of the day went smoothly. Well -- the whole weekend went smoothly actually. I really enjoyed the overall good atmosphere, talkative people and amazing cosplays.

I also played my first multiplayer game of Monster Hunter ultimate on 3Ds at night in front of the karaoke room. I didn’t eaven realize to ask the persons name, but I had a lot of fun! 

So if you happen to read this: I hope we get to play again :)

Usually I’m quite tired on Sunday especially since we had held our Teru teru bozu- workshop in the morning, but Meg (Photo Finish- MLP FIM on sunday) wanted us to go and get our pictures taken in the photobooth place and so we did. It was the second time I’ve ever been to one and these people really knew what they were doing. 

Also the flea market worked more smoothly this year and that is a big +++++.

 The My little pony cosplay Meg wore was actually made by me for Fanfest 2013, but I never got a picture of it so it was nice to finaly get that eaventough it wasn't me wearing it. It suited her better anyhow~

In conclusion:  Thanks to everyone for a successful weekend and I cannot wait for the next Desucon!

It's been already two weeks from Desucon and only now I'm updating about it.. Yeah, I'm a slow blogger. Or just lazy?

The convention was awesome as usual. Thank yous belong to the people who visited our table, the organizers and of course the cons attenders. Special thanks for everyone at the Cookie decorating workshop.. The last hour was hilarious!

Making Mako

Desucon is 14.-16.6.13. This. Weekend. 

It came so sudden eaventough I've been waiting for it a few months.. But I haven't been slacking, oh no. 

I have been making items to sell in the convention. Usually I've been on Artist's Alley, but this year we're going to try our luck in the Exhibition Hall (suom. myyntisali) so it's  a bit different this time around.

I've also been trying to finish my Mako (Avatar- Legend of Korra) cosplay. Actually I only have the shoes left unfinished so it's all good.

Day 1: Materials and lineart of the outfit. I usualy draw the outfit I am doing as it helps me to think about the sewing process.

Day 2: I dyed a white fabric with tea. The plain white was too Bright!

Days 2-3: Sewing the jacket

It was weird to start sewing after a long time. I tought I would be struggling with the seams and well-- everything else, but supricingly it all came to me as I sat down by the machine and started to sew.

 Of course there were errors, there are always some, but I allowed myself to make them. Normaly I would've tossed the sewing machine to the floor ( I nearly have already), cursed myself to the lowest pit of hell and stormed into a secluded corner to cry, hating my guts.. 

Yes, that was my Perfectionism taking a form. And I really don't want to go back to feeling like that again. That is why I am doing this self- examination process.

Day 4: Making the knots and finishing it up... Ugh, I hate my camera.

Day 5: The pants and the scarf. I actually cut a pair of my old pants to make them into knickerbockers. Quick and easy~

The black gloves I already had so that saved my time aswell. Now it's just me and the shoes.. 

I'm trying to keep up a good mood eaventough stress of the event is building fast, but I'll try to do my best!

Now, I need some sleep...

Tämän vuoden Desucon Frostbite oli aivan upea! Kiitos siitä kuuluu mahtavalle Conitealle ja mukaville kävijöille. Ja sain kuin sainkin Rin cosplayni valmiiksi! Peruukki onnistui mielestäni myös kohtalaisen hyvin..

Desucon Frostbite was awesome this year! Thank yous belong to the great Conteam and the people participating. And I did finish my Rin cosplay! The wig came out so well in my opinion..

I'm eagerly waiting for summer Desu~

We also went to sell in HelLoCon with my friends. The program was interesting and the outfits the lolitas had were totaly delicious <3 Too bad I didn't realize to take any pictures...

My toughts exactly...

En ole saanut cosplay asuani yhtään eteenpäin, saati sitten tehtyä tuotteita Taidekujalle. Voiko olla huonompaa ajoitusta olla kipeä?

Toivottavasti pääsen edes tapahtumaan, sillä muuten hotellihuone ja Taidekujapöytä on yhtä tyhjän kanssa. Ja en pääse pitämään 'Tuunaa Desupaitasi'- työpajaa!

It's. Not. REAL!

I've been sick for nearly a week now and it doesn't seem to get any better.. And Desucon is next week!

I haven't been able to do my copslay at all nor the products I wanted to sell on Artists' Alley. Worst timing ever.

I hope I'll atleast make it to the convention because othervice my hotelroom and the Artists' Alley table are good for nothing. And I can't organize the 'Pimp your DesuShirt'- workshop!
