Ordering Worbla in Finland

The difficulties with Morgoths crown drove me to find a better material for it. I decided it was time to buy and try Worbla.

There is only two places (that I know of for now) in Finland where you can buy it and those are Ompelimo- Verhoomo Tera Ky and Slöjd-Detaljer Suomi (The actual store is in Sweden but they have a finnish netshop). Tera Ky is the official Worbla importer in Finland and they also sell the see thru Transpa Art. Slöjd-Detaljer has only two different sizes of worbla sheets to offer so I decided to go with Tera Ky. Their price range is affordable in my opinion and they try to go for the cheapest posting option (in my case it was Matkahuolto).

It was a bit weird buying it as they do not have their own net shop and you have to inquire it through their email. They answered very quickly to my questions and emails. The package was shipped swiftly and I received it in 2 days of payment. All and all it was a good experience and I’ll definitely buy more Worbla there if needed!

The Worbla has arrived!

Hankaluudet Morgothing kruunun kanssa ajoivat minut etsimään parempaa materiaalia siihen. Päätin että oli aika ostaa ja kokeilla Worblaa.

Suomessa on vain kaksi paikkaa ( tietääkseni ja ainakin toistaiseksi) mistä voi sitä ostaa ja ne ovat Ompelimo-Verhoomo Tera Ky. ja Slöjd- Detaljer Suomi (Kauppa itsessään on Ruotsissa mutta heillä on suomalainen nettikauppa). Tera Ky on Worblan virallinen maahantuoja suomessa ja heiltä saa myös läpinäkyvää Transpa Artia. Slöjd- Detaljerissa on myynnissä vain kahta eri kokoa worbla levyjä joten valitsin ostopaikakseni Tera Ky:n.

Heidän hintansta ovat edulliset ja he yrittävät saada tuotteen lähetettyä halvimmalla mahdollisella tavalla (minun tapauksessani Matkahuollon pakettina).

Oli hieman outoa tilata heiltä sillä liikkeellä ei ole omaa nettikauppaa vaan tiedustelut lähetetään sähköpostitse. He vastasivat nopeasti kysymyksiini ja viesteihini. Paketti lähti nopeasti postiin ja se oli perillä jo 2 päivän kuluttua maksusta. Kaiken kaikkiaan kokemus oli hyvä ja ostan varmasti heiltä lisää Worblaa jos sitä tulen tarvitsemaan!

Black velvet

I’ve been hunting for black fabric for my Morgoth cosplay since the beginning of this year. I wanted most of the materials to be recycled so this made my task little more difficult. I’ve searched the recycling centres, Fida and Uff- stores, asked from friends… How difficult is it to find second hand black fabric? Honestly?? I had already found a few good recycled materials for the cosplay but I knew they weren’t enough. Especially since I had already started making that one outfit… It has potential tough.

I was struck with luck just a while back as I yet again visited the Recycling centre near my house. I went in believing that it was another wasted trip and I walked out with 6 meters of black velvet for 10€ (12€ without the sale). Such happiness!

Time to celebrate with some cake~ 

Olen metsästänyt mustaa kangasta Morgoth cosplay asuuni jo vuoden alusta lähtien. Halusin että suurin osa materiaaleistani olisi ostettu käytettynä joten se vaikeutti hommaa huomattavasti. Olen kolunnut läpi Kierrätyskeskukset, Fida ja Uff- myymälät, kysellyt ystäviltä… Kuinka vaikeaa on löytää kierrätettyä mustaa kangasta? Oikeasti?? Olin jo löytänyt muutaman hyvän materiaalin kierrätettynä mutta tiesin etteivät ne riittäisi, varsinkin kun aloitin sen yhden asun tekemisen jo… Siinä on kyllä potentiaalia. Onni potkaisi kuitenkin lopulta kun olin taas käymässä kotini lähellä olevassa Kierrätyskeskuksessa. Kävelin kauppaan uskoen että siitä tulisi taas turha reissu ja kävelin ulos 6 metrin mustan sametti kankaan kanssa, joka maksoi vain 10€ (12€ ilman alennusta). Mikä onni!

When I arrived home the post had brought my order of ‘Increase Height Half Shoes Insole’- thingies. They are about 3cm pieces of thick polyurethane foam that you put inside your shoes to make you slightly taller which I really need for my cosplays sometimes. I bet these would be easy to make yourself from example remainer materials, but since I didn’t have any it was cheaper for me to buy them ready for the price of $1,17/ 2pcs.

Things are starting to go right. Finally.

Saapuessani kotiin oli postissa tullut ’Lisä pituus puolikkaat Pohjalliset’ - jutut. Ne ovat n.3cm palaset paksua polyuretaani vaahtoa jotka pistetään kenkien sisään että näyttäisit pidemmältä, mitä tarvitsen välillä cosseissani. Lyön vetoa että tällaiset olisi helppoa tehdä myös itse esimerkiksi ylijäämä materiaaleista jos niitä löytyy, mutta koska materiaaleja ei ollut minulle tuli halvemmaksi ostaa nämä valmiina $1,17/ 2 kpl hintaan.

Asiat lähtevät toimimaan. Vihdoin.

I survived the trip to Estonia and by surviving I mean that I am terrified of traveling by ships, but now as promised the shop guide for material purchase.

This shop is in two floors: The top floor is an outlet store where they have a sale of -75% off out of everything they are selling so I really recommend to check it out before heading to the actual store just below. On the upper store they have patches of fabric, bolt ends, lace trims, buttons, jewelry, etc.

The shop below is filled with gorgeous fabrics. They also sell beads, zippers and jewelry making equipment. The seller however looked at me and Meg like we were the scum of the earth.

Tämä kauppa on kahdessa kerroksessa: Ylemmässä kerroksessa on outlet myymälä jossa kaikki on -75% alennuksessa joten suosittelen käymään ensin siellä ennen kuin suuntaat alemman kerroksen kauppaan. Ylemmän kerroksen kaupasta löytyy tilkkuja, kangaspakkojen päätyjä, pitsinauhaa, nappeja, koruja, tmv.

Alakerran kauppa on täynnä upeita kankaita. Heillä on myynnissä myös helmiä, vetoketjuja ja korujen tekemiseen tarkoitettuja osia. Myyjä kuitenkin katsoi minua ja Megiä kuin saastaista roskaa.

AS Abakhan Fabrics Eesti

My favorite shop. The first section has all the lace and jewelry making equipment and the second is reserved for the fabrics. Abakhan is cheaper than Kangadzungel but they don’t have as much fabrics to choose from. The service was also much better as in Kangadzungel.

Suosikki kauppani. Kaupan ensimmäinen osio oli varattu pitseille ja koru tarpeille ja toinen osio oli kankaille. Abakhan on halvempi kuin Kangadzungel mutta heillä ei ole yhtä suurta valikoimaa kankaissa. Palvelu oli kuitenkin paljon parempaa.

We didn’t have time to go and check it out inside but what I could make out from peeking from the window in that they had a wide range of beads.

Meillä ei ollut tarpeeksi aikaa käydä kaupassa sisällä mutta helmiä oli todella laaja valikoima ikkunasta kurkistettua.

This shop had a weird entrance as it looked more like someone’s apartment. The shop in itself was quite big and had narrow walking spaces as the walls had huge shelves full of stuff: lace, corset bones, faux fur, fabrics, wool threads, beads, scissors, and the list just goes on and on… The cashier was nice aswell but since the shop was so cramped I nearly got an anxiety attack.

Tällä kaupalla oli hieman outo sisäänkäynti sillä se näytti jonkun asunnolta. Kauppa itsessään oli aika iso ja siellä oli kapeat kulkuväylät sillä seinillä kulki suuret hyllyt täynnä tavaraa: Pitsiä, korsettien luita, pörrökankaita, kankaita, villalankaa, helmiä, saksia ja lista vain jatkuu jatkumistaan… Kassahenkilö oli myös mukava mutta koska kauppa oli niin täyteen ahdettu meinasin saada ahdistuskohtauksen.

Cute two- story bookstore near Solaris. On the top floor they have books and on the lower level you can find books on sale, memo books, calendars, pens and papers.

Söpö kaksikerroksinen kirjakauppa Solariksen läheisyydessä. Ylemmässä kerroksessa on myynnissä kirjoja ja alemmasta kerroksesta löytyy alekirjoja, muistilehtiöitä, kalentereita, kyniä ja papereita.

A small shop near Rahva Raamat AS. They don’t have much of selection but it is quite cheap, especially inks. The cashier was nice and tried very hard to help us choose the right inks and pens.
Pieni kauppa lähellä Rahva Raamat AS- liikettä. Valikoima ei ole suuri mutta tuotteet ovat suhteellisen halpoja, etenkin musteet. Kaupan myyjä oli mukava ja yritti parhaansa mukaan auttaa meitä valitsemaan oikeat musteet ja kynät.
